Food Roundup: December 2015

Yello folks!

This would be the last food roundup for the year 2015! WOOHOO!

Nara Kitchen & Co., Damansara Uptown

Had  a meetup with my favourite girls at a new place, which is just a few shops away from The Good Batch.

Read some reviews before I went. Heard that their Brilliant Breakfast Pudding and Chicken & Waffles are very good. Plus, their food presentation are really pretty!

I like the layout of this cafe. Simple, clean and not.. serabut. And not dark.

Tunisian Baked Eggs

I chose the Tunisian Baked Eggs. I thought Chicken & Waffles is more apt for dinner (I have no idea what sort of a thinking is that?!). I was so tempted to order the Monster Poutine but I thought it wasn't right for a meal and it would be too much for the 3 of us!

I will be back there someday to have the poutine! Mark my words!

Nara Kitchen & Co. also serves assorted cakes and they sell breads as well! :D

Yoshinoya, DPulze Cyberjaya

Was randomly in Cyberjaya for work so I brought my colleague to DPulze for lunch. We ended up in Yoshinoya (which also shares the same eating area as Hanamaru Udon).

I ordered some spicy chicken katsu don (large summore wtf) with onsen tamago, added miso soup and green tea. The chicken katsu piece was so HUGE!

Glad Yoshinoya is back! Hope they'll open up somewhere near my workplace LOL.

Dave's Bistro Bar Grill, One Utama Shopping Centre

My colleague wanted to come to this place because she loves its mushroom soup! I remember coming here with my friends ages ago too, and we had great food. I'm not sure why we never returned though. :P

It was a delight that we found out that on weekdays they have set lunches! Called the Petite Executive Lunch, each day had 3 different options to choose for as mains, served with small servings of Caesar salad and mushroom soup.

The salad was just usual for me, but true enough the mushroom soup was good. I would still favour d'italiane's though.

Between the carbonara, pork belly and ham and mayo petite pizza, I chose the carbonara. I think the portion is quite right, though I wish it had more bacon bits.

Still had room for dessert wtf. 5 girls shared a Chocolate Fondant, which took a while to come. Found out that it has a 25-minute waiting time, but we sort of missed out on that info.

Let's just say we all had our dose of orgasms that afternoon. :P

Check out Dave's FB page here! for more info on the RM19.90 lunch set! It costed us about RM27 each for one lunch set plus sharing the dessert.

BM Yam Rice, Eat Food Village, Publika

I just found out that there is actually a non-halal food court in Publika after shifting to a new workplace. The stalls available range from chicken rice, yam rice, bak kut teh, noodles, yong tau foo and etc. There's even Lorong Seratus Tahun there!

Why didn't I know about this earlier?!

Tried the BM Yam Rice after seeing my colleagues having them before. I ordered the ginger wine chicken which turned out too sweet for my liking, and while the rice was good, I wish it had more yam and dried shrimps!

But the pork balls were awesome! RM5.30 for a bowl of six balls! Would gladly order it again.

My whole order costed RM17.90. A little steep for a food court haha.

Eat Food Village is located at the opposite end of Ben's Independent Grocer in Publika.

Mezze Bistro, Medan Damansara

Blogged about it here. :D

Jin Xuan Hong Kong Restaurant, Damansara Jaya

My second time here, but I'm so sorry I didn't take any other photo besides this:

The salted egg yolk bun, called the Golden Bun.

So majestic. So heavenly. I had two, besides all the other stuff that fateful day.

And I'm still longing for more.

Plan B, Paradigm Mall

Bro wanted to treat us before he went back to Singapore so we dropped by Paradigm Mall and ended up in Plan B for some snacks and coffee.

I had a good cup of decaf cappuccino because their coffee machine was faulty LOL. Decaf or not, still good.

Besides fries, I naughtily ordered the salted caramel chocolate tart after seeing it on display. I know it doesn't look like the most glorious tart ever but trust me, this is the bomb. I never knew this existed in Plan B or I would have ended up in Plan B more frequently.

Beneath that layer of chocolate, laid a precious amount of salted caramel, waiting to be devoured by any salted caramel fans who gets tingly everytime they come across the word salted caramel.

Like me.

Anyways, to end this final food roundup for 2015, I'm leaving you with an Instagram video of my favourite bun in action.

Cheers to more food roundups!

Food Roundup: November 2015

It's already the middle of the final month of 2015 folks! Never thought I would get around to post this because:
  • I've been busy since transferring to a new workplace;
  • I've cut down on taking food photographs because I have a new lunch partner, but a few days ago I found out she also likes to take food photos; and
  • I FORGOT LAH #pleaseforgiveme
And I also been busy trying to find a new home for me and my sisters - need one by Chinese New Year #wtf but a lot of my dad's stuff are unsettled due to some people's inefficiency/selfishness/stupidity.

Dear God, please help make things easier for my parents. I promise I will try to balik kampung often once they have settled down back in Kelantan.

YES. My dad has retired and my parents are moving back to our hometown so a lot of things to be sorted out plus so many financial problems arrgghhhh i regret not saving! :(

Anyways, since this is a food roundup, let's just talk about food for now.

Rakuzen, Publika

I was bored. And I decided to have lunch alone. I figured it was a good time to try Rakuzen after all these years of wanting to try.

ikura chawanmushi

So I went bonkers with my order.

negitoro maki

Sakura Chirashidon Zen

I love salmon bellies, will order it as long as they're on the menu!

I was bored.

Yeah. Everything just for me.

Dining at Rakuzen can be expensive although it has good lunch sets. Or maybe it's just me LOL. All of the above cost me about RM150?

Cannot go too often haha.

Tonkatsu by Ma Maison, Publika

One of my favourite place, because of free refills of the rice, salad AND soup.

Everytime I'd leave this place with a bloated stomach.

Potato salad - not entirely potato, it has tuna in it as well. Having it with your main tonkatsu meal ALONE is not a good idea. Be warned.

I had the negi miso katsu set. Sorry I cannot remember which it was between the rosu or the hire. Hmm.

I'd go back to this place over and over again. But cannot so often lah.

Cosans Coffee, Solaris Mont Kiara

I like the coffee. Kept me awake LOL.

And this salted caramel cheesecake is just.. LOVE.

Ippudo, The Gardens Mall

Ramen in tonkotsu broth, I have a love-hate relationship with you.

I've tried tonkatsu ramen in Hakata before, and remembered how strong the taste of pig's broth was. The first time I tried Ippudo here as well, I remembered it having the same taste, but it was not as thick as the one in Hakata.

gyozas were small. sad.
I decided to try Karakamen this time, because I'm always looking for something spicy when it comes to soupy stuff.

Surprisingly I like this better than the usual tonkotsu broth, I guess the spicy miso incorporated cuts down the porky scent. My youngest sister commented on the strong pork taste as well, though she said that she didn't mind eating ramen again.

Jamaica Blue Fine Coffees, Midvalley Megamall

Randomly chose this place because I had no idea where to go after lunch at Ippudo. And I didn't feel like shopping. So tried this place.

We had the nutella cake and the blueberry cheesecake.

I wasn't amazed by both cakes, so I won't drop by again unless I'm dragged there by someone. :P

The Red Beanbag, Solaris Dutamas

Don't you just love weekend breakfasts/brunches?

I do!

If I have the will to wake up for it lah..

So last Sunday my sisters and I brought our mom to The Red Beanbag (RBB) at Solaris Dutamas. Or Publika, if you're more familiar with that name. Been there myself twice (me thinks!) and I knew that it was gonna be packed, so left home early and reached RBB at 15 minutes past its opening time, which is at 9.30 am.

Guess what?

It was already full! We were given a waiting time of 30 minutes, which we didn't object.

Got seated after more than 30 minutes, but I was in a good mood so I didn't care (and I didn't know where else to take them). Usually I'm not the kind that would wait more than 15 minutes haha.

I think I've not been to RBB for quite a long while because it has become a pet-friendly restaurant! I didn't know about this and kept wondering why there were dogs in the restaurant LOL

This rottweiler was the first one I encountered while climbing up the stairs to RBB. The owners were having such a hard time coaxing it up the stairs - apparently it was scared! It was shivering and my mom kept telling me to not to be too close to it, but the lady owner told me to go first and I guess, I trusted that it was in good hands so I went nearer to it. Came close to patting it but I didn't want to scare the shit out of it further.

So I guess some rottweilers can be harmless.

Come to think of it, it's quite adorable now I feel like having one.

We were seated outside, near the entrance, which I was thankful for since it was raining that day. At least it wouldn't be hot.

I spy a KORKEN over here

Besides breakfast stuff, RBB also serves a small variety of pasta, burgers and snacks. I had a hard time choosing (because I couldn't remember what I ate the last time). I saw two girls ordering aglio oglio and it smell soooo good but I thought it was too early for pasta. Then I saw someone having baked eggs and I felt like having it, but it has beef inside so..

hot chocolate

My sister ordered the hot chocolate which for me is quite good. I had a fml moment when I ordered my drink - in my head I wanted to have cappuccino because I kept imagining how good my day would be if I had a pretty coffee art on my coffee..

BUT THEN I ORDERED ESPRESSO.

espresso

I have never ordered espresso in my whole entire life actually. Imagine my confusion when it came.. "Where iz my coffee art?!" before being coming into the sense that ESPRESSO IS THIS SIZE LAH DUNGU WHERE GOT COFFEE ART WAN.

So.. yeah. I iz sad. And the espresso was too sour for my liking. I even had to google how to drink espresso hahahaha.

Mom liked the long black actually.

Sumo

Sumo = pan-fried salmon with hash browns and spinach, topped with a poached egg and hollandaise sauce. I really like the hash browns. Or potato cakes. Or whatever you call them lah.

I love salmon. Period.

Chips and Dip

Chips and a good dip can never go wrong. If only I had beer with me. The dip is just too good. Yums.

Portobello & Pancakes

Youngest sister's Portobello & Pancakes will definitely delight all portobello mushroom fans out there! She didn't like it that much - found the mushroom taste overpowering after a while. But I did. There's tomato chutney as well but I find it too sweet compared to Dome's (which comes with the vegetable wrap).

The Atlantic

How can I say no to smoked salmon and poached eggs? And spinach? And mushrooms? And french toast?

it's murder on the french toast

But I guess, two poached eggs were a little too much for me.

sorreh.

Could barely finish the second egg. I wish there were more slices of smoked salmon. And mushroom and spinach. And bigger pieces of french toasts. Cut down to one poached egg and voila! Perfect for me already. Or maybe I got jelak easily lah.

Benedict III

Mom ordered the Benedict III (I'm not sure what happened to I and II) with turkey ham. You can opt for beef hash instead. Contrary to me, she polished off both eggs.

And because I wasn't satisfied with my drink..

Mocha

..mocha with coffee art to save my Sunday! *happy mode*

The Red Beanbag is located at Solaris Dutamas (the building next to Publika), above dr.Cafe Coffee.
Doesn't serve pork, but it's a pet-friendly place so there'll be dogs, cats (have not seen any) or pets! I told my sister to bring her hamsters the next time we go there haha.

So this is not really a helpful food review, but I didn't mean for it to be one. Haha.
